When it comes to traveling by plane, there is no space that is better controlled, but the sanitation situation is far from. We have for you the truth behind the matter with surprising facts which have been revealed by pilots and flight attendants.
Snooze Or Lose
Pilots in Norway, Swedan took a survey which exposed the truth, almost half of all pilots have fallen asleep while flying. That’s what co-pilots are for! For longer trips they alternate time to rest, unfortunately that still doesn’t stop them from occasionally dozing on the job.
15 Minutes Of Air
If the oxygen masks were to drop down during the flight, there is roughly 15 minutes of air. Doesn’t seem like much but it actually is plenty of enough time for the pilot to bring the plan to a lower altitude.
When flying at night, the lights in the plane turn down. If you thought it was to set the night time mood, you were wrong. It’s to help your eyes adjust in case there is an evacuation once the plane lands.
Upgrades to first class do happen once in a while. However, it is a bit of a hassle for the flight attendants as they have to fill out a form explaining why had the passenger switch. If you get on their good side, or perhaps they find you attractive, you just might get to swap to the better seat. The best ticket is being pregnant!
The lavatory on an airplane can actually be unlocked from the outside. The switch is usually hidden under the no-smoking sign or the lavatory sign. Lift the badge to slide the bolt and there you have it!
Always check that your life vest is where it’s supposed to be. A lot of passengers like to steal them to have as a souvenir. Hopefully you’ll never need to use it but better safe than sorry!
Sleep Or Eat
Flight attendants admitted to holding off on serving dinner, hoping that if enough passengers are sleeping then they won’t order food. If you want to eat, then stay awake!
Flight Attendants Payment
When it comes to paying the flight attendants, every airline has a different policy. Some believe the attendants should only be collecting money once the plane takes off, others say it’s when the plane separates from the gate.
Handle With Care
The people who handle your luggage often like to go against all labels from “fragile” to “this side up”. If the contents in your bags aren’t coming back the way you wanted maybe you should try labelling your luggage “I love luggage handlers”.
Bring Your Own Blanket
As you might have already suspected, the pillows and blankets you ask for on a flight are not cleaned between each take off. If you get on the first flight of the day it’s possible you might get a fresh set. Also note, the trays you eat off of are also not cleaned. They are also used as changing tables for babies.
Food For Thought
The pilot and co-pilot must eat different meals during a flight. This limits the chances of both pilots being ill from food poisoning.
Don’t Drink The Water
Avoid drinking tap water on a plane as much as you can. This includes tea and coffee! Water tanks on the planes are almost never cleaned and have been noted to have thick layers of mold growing inside. On top of it all, the water tank and bathroom evacuation are side by side and often taken care of by the same technician. This could easily contaminate the water.
